Bboys and Bgirls storm Roland Garros in the run-up to Breaking’s debut as an Olympic sport in Paris2024

On October 21, 2023, Paris’s iconic Stade Roland-Garros set the stage for the 20th Red Bull BC One World Final. In the hallowed tennis arena, 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls clashed for the coveted championship title. The home of world-class tennis, Paris’s iconic Stade Roland-Garros was transformed into the ultimate breaking arena as 32 b-boys and b-girls took to the stage to showcase gravity-defying dance and powermoves in the hotly anticipated final of the global contest.

The Red Bull BC One World Final kicked off with an impressive roster of 32 competitors: 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls. They clashed on the stage, vying for a coveted spot in the quarter-finals, captivating more than 8,000 spectators.

The Breaking competition in Paris2024 will take place in the emblematic Place de la Concorde, in a nod to the beginnings of this sport that started in the streets and has become world-renowned and has become part of important events such as international championships, and now, the Olympic Games.

After a thrilling span of four hours and 30 riveting battles, Ami and Hong 10 emerged as the luminous champions of Red Bull BC One 2023. In the b-girl battle, 24-year-old Ami emerged victorious over her competitors.This win marks her second world final victory, having previously made history as the inaugural b-girl champion at the Red Bull BC One World Final 2018. 

Hailing from South Korea, Hong 10 clinched the win in the b-boy battle as he showcased dazzling moves that edged out Canada’s Phil Wizard. This triumph marks his third Red Bull BC One title, with prior victories in 2006 and 2013. The legendary Hong 10 stunned with countless signature moves and perfect control in complex freezes and combos. Now, only Hong 10 and B-Boy Menno from the Netherlands hold the distinct honor of securing three Red Bull BC One World Final titles.

As we announced through our social networks, BGirl Lola, winner of the Spanish Breaking Championship at Extreme Barcelona and Red Bull BC One Spain 2023 and Bboy Grazy winner of Red Bull BC One Spain 2023, were in Paris fighting for this slot in the grand final through The Last Chance Cypher competition: the final competition on the road to the Red Bull BC One World Final where all the Cypher winners from around the world come together to battle for the last open spots in the Red Bull BC One World Final line-up.

The battle process is as follows: every Cypher winner takes part in a showcase battle which the judges use to pick the best 16 breakers to advance to the next stage.

The top 16 then battle it out in regular knockout battles until only the number of breakers is left, which can move on to the world final.

After the success of this grand final, the Bboys and Bgirls are getting closer and closer to the Olympic dream and are sure to bring with them epic battles that will leave the audience speechless.
