UWS breaking champions take a spot for Paris 2024 Olympics

– Mus B-Boy champion Victor and Andalucia Urban B-Girl champion Nicka will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics

– They won the places by winning last weekend’s World Breaking Championships in Belgium

B-Boy Victor and B-Girl Nicka have secured their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by winning gold medals at the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) World Breaking Championships in Leuven, Belgium. This event marked a historic milestone, as breaking will make its Olympic debut at the next edition of the Olympic Games in the French capital.

The B-Girl final at Ladeuzeplein square pitted two top competitors: Lithuania’s Dominika Banevič, known as Nicka, a 16-year-old European champion, against experienced Japanese breakdancer Ayumi Fukushima, also known as Ayumi. Banevič was the youngest in her category at the event. She concluded her battle by standing up on her right arm and twisting her body almost completely, beating Ayumi by a score of 2-1, securing her place at the Olympic Games.

B-Girl Nicka was the Andalucia Urban 2023 champion at the WDSF 2023 European Breaking Championship. Nicka came into the final with a lot of energy which is what sets her apart from the others. Being only 16 years old, she arrives fresher than the others to the final rounds, allowing her to differentiate herself, in terms of execution, from her rivals, and gave a masterclass on how to break, winning all 3 rounds and leaving Stefani, her biggest opponent, with no chance. 25 votes in favour and only 2 against.

On the other hand, 28-year-old American B-Boy Victor Montalvo, who had already won the title in 2021 in Paris, ranked No. 5 in the world, was all smiles after completing his battle. He successfully defended his crown by once again beating Canadian B-Boy Phil Wizard in the final with a 2-1 score.

B-Boy Victor was the Madrid Urban Sports 2023 champion in the Breaking For Gold International Series. The MUS final was a duel of titans. On one side Amir (Kazakhstan) is considered one of the best bboys in the world, as is Bboy Victor (USA). Both winners of the last editions of the Red Bull BC One World Final, Victor in 2022 and Amir in 2021. It was a luxury to enjoy a high-voltage final in Madrid, where both riders gave their all to win the championship title and the 400 Olympic Ranking points to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The final showed the best skills of each, Amir with a more original style and Victor with a more classical style but with a very refined aesthetic and an almost perfect execution, the latter won the victory winning the 3 rounds of the final by 16 votes in favour and only 3 against. This makes Vicius Victor one of the favourites in the fight for the Gold in Paris 2024.

In total, the WDSF Breaking World Championships 2023 has offered 16 qualification places for the National Olympic Committees of the winners of the B-Boy and B-Girl competitions. These 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls, all born before 31 December 2008, will compete in Paris at the Place de la Concorde on 9-10 August in a bid to become the first Olympic champions in the history of breaking.

Urban World Series is proud to have been part of the journey of these future Olympians who are undoubtedly experiencing an exciting time for the sport, which will make its debut on the Olympic stage in Paris 2024.
