The owner of Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, and Roxy declares bankruptcy.

Liberated Brands, the operator of Quiksilver, Billabong, Volcom, and Roxy stores in the U.S., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, leading to the closure of all 124 U.S. retail locations and the layoff of nearly 1,400 employees. The company cited challenges such as competition from fast fashion, high operating costs, and shifting consumer preferences towards e-commerce as key factors in its financial difficulties. Despite these closures, the parent company, Authentic Brands Group, plans to keep these iconic surf and skate brands alive by transitioning their licenses to new operators, ensuring continued availability through specialty retailers, department stores, and online platforms.
