The fourth edition of Madrid Urban Sports has concluded with more than 68,300 people attending during the five days of the event. Madrid Río, once again hosted the event, a perfect place to experience the competitions that made the city of Madrid vibrate from 16 to 18 June: the Scootering World Championships, the BMX and Breaking Olympic qualifiers and a Skate competition. The best international riders and competitions, with the support of all the international federations, made possible the most extensive sporting line-up ever seen in the history of the MUS.
The biggest sports line-up
The MUS set up its SkateParks – the StreetPlaza and the CentralPark – and the Urban Stage in Madrid Río to offer the biggest international urban sports line-up of the moment. More than 400 athletes from 50 nationalities came to Madrid to showcase their tricks on the Scooter, BMX, Skateboard and their best dance moves. A total of 12 finals, 9 of them broadcast live on Teledeporte and via streaming in more than 60 countries.
The Scootering World Championships, the biggest competition in the discipline, was the highlight of the fourth edition of the event, with more than 200 athletes battling it out for the world title. Mia Catalano and Lucas Di Meglio were the Scooter Street champions, while Claire Parks and Jordan Clark took gold in Scooter Park.
The MUS again shared points for Paris 2024, as it did last year, in two of the three urban Olympic disciplines: BMX and Breaking.
The BMX athletes made a Pitstop in Madrid to continue their progress towards the Paris Olympics with a race on the UCI C1 circuit: Jiaqui Sun in the Women’s category and Jude Jones in BMX Men were the BMX champions.
Breaking continues its Olympic dream, 200 Bboys and Bgirls from 45 different nationalities competed in the Breaking For Gold International Series, a qualifying event for the Olympic Games and a preparation for European athletes for the European Games. Victor (Bboy) and Aiko (BGirl) were proclaimed champions of the MUS 2023 and therefore took some points to fulfil their Olympic dream.
Skateboarding, one of the most popular sports in the capital, was one of the most acclaimed competitions, with Roos Zwesloot and Ivan Monteiro winning the MUS 2023.
New Formats storms the MUS
The fourth edition of MUS has also been flooded with new entertainment formats for young people. On Wednesday 14th June, a Cash4tricks competition was organised together with Streamer Nil Ojeda, which was broadcast on his twitch and youtube channel with more than 250,000 viewers.
The best Skate and Scooter riders gave their all to win more than €1500 on a module created especially for the occasion, created by SB Ramps and painted with the Streamer’s brand, Milfshakes.
In addition, during the weekend, the first edition of the Movistar Cash4tricks was held at the Skatepark Ignacio Echeverría, the hero of skateboarding, where €800 was distributed in each modality of the competition: Skate, Scooter and BMX. Professional and local riders, ironed their best tricks in the SkatePark to win cash and the ovation of the hundreds of attendees.
As usual, the MUS is not only a sporting event, but during the weekend, Market stops and local Urban Art artists exhibited their products and art around Madrid Río, adding a touch of colour to the favourite weekend for lovers of sport and urban culture.
